Connecticut is filled with gorgeous locations that make the perfect backdrop for your engagement photos. Whether you're dreaming of a romantic garden, a breezy beach, or charming downtown streets, there's a spot for every couple's vibe. As a Connecticut engagement and elopement photographer, I love helping my clients find the perfect setting to tell their love story. Here are 10 of my favorite places for an unforgettable engagement session:
With hundreds of blooming roses and winding pathways, Elizabeth Park feels like stepping into a fairytale. It's especially magical in late spring and early summer when the flowers are at their peak.
Wickham Park offers sweeping hilltop views, stunning gardens, and peaceful wooded areas. In the fall, it transforms into a colorful wonderland that’s perfect for cozy, romantic photos.
Harkness Park brings together everything — a historic mansion, lush gardens, and a dreamy beachfront. It’s one of my top choices for couples who want both elegance and a relaxed ocean vibe.
For a laid-back, barefoot-in-the-sand engagement session, Silver Sands is perfect. The wide open beaches and the boardwalk offer beautiful, natural light and plenty of space to explore.
If you love classic architecture and a little old-world charm, Yale’s gothic-style buildings and quiet courtyards create a timeless, romantic atmosphere for your photos.
Adventurous couples will love the hike to Heublein Tower at Talcott Mountain. The panoramic views of the Connecticut River Valley are breathtaking, especially at golden hour!
Topsmead is peaceful, open, and simply stunning in every season. The historic English cottage, rolling fields, and forest trails offer tons of variety for your session.
This hidden gem in Connecticut’s Quiet Corner has a beautiful lake, charming boathouse, and scenic woodlands, making it ideal for couples who want a more private, nature-filled location.
Mystic is picture-perfect with its cobblestone streets, colorful shops, and waterfront views. If you're looking for a classic New England vibe with a touch of coastal romance, you’ll love it here.
Want a stylish, urban feel? West Hartford Center’s cute cafes, murals, and pretty streets create a fun, lively backdrop for engagement photos with lots of personality.
Choosing a location that feels right for you two is one of the first (and most exciting!) steps in planning your engagement photos. Whether you’re drawn to the beach, the forest, or the city streets, I’d love to help you find the perfect spot and create images that feel so authentically you.
Surprise proposal photography is a unique and special way to capture the moment when someone pops the question to their significant other. It is a trend that has been gaining popularity in recent years, as more and more couples want to remember the special moment in a way that is intimate and personalized.
The first step in surprise proposal photography is to plan the proposal itself. This means thinking about the location, timing, and overall feel of the proposal. Some couples choose to propose in a romantic location like a beach or a park, while others opt for a more personal location like their home or a place that holds special meaning to them. Timing is also important, as the couple will want to choose a time that is private and intimate, and when the lighting is just right.
Once the proposal is planned, the next step is to find a photographer. This is where surprise proposal photography can get tricky, as the couple will want to find a photographer who is experienced in capturing candid and spontaneous moments. They should be able to work discreetly and not disturb the proposal. It is also important to find a photographer who is willing to work with the couple to create a personalized experience that reflects their personalities and style.
During the proposal itself, the photographer will typically be hidden nearby, capturing the special moment from a distance. They will be able to capture the couple's reactions and emotions, as well as the details of the proposal itself. This is where experience and skill come into play, as the photographer will need to be able to anticipate the couple's movements and be ready to capture the perfect shot at the right moment.
After the proposal, the photographer will edit the photos and create a collection that the couple can treasure for years to come. The final product can be shared with friends and family, and also serve as a reminder of the special moment when the couple decided to spend the rest of their lives together.
Overall, surprise proposal photography is a unique and special way to capture the moment when someone pops the question to their significant other. It is a trend that has been gaining popularity in recent years, as more and more couples want to remember the special moment in a way that is intimate and personalized. With the right planning and a skilled photographer, couples can create a lasting memory of their special moment that they will cherish forever.

Not only are small intimate wedding days a favorite of mine to photograph, but this wedding is special to me because I grew up right in Kent, Connecticut just five minutes away from their venue location.
As we talked more about the details of their wedding day we thought it would be a great idea to have their engagement session at the location of their wedding venue. It was so wonderful to be able to walk around and get familiar with the venue before the big day. Robin and Peter showed me their vision for their wedding day details, pointing out where tables will be set and the ceremony location.

Emily and Jim wanted to head into the woods for their engagement photography session, so that is exactly what we did. Connecticut is overflowing with gorgeous locations for photography sessions. We headed to one of my favorite spots in Central CT.
I love to start of engagement sessions just letting the couple be themselves. Be silly, be serious, be camera shy, I love it all. I enjoy seeing the natural chemistry between two people first. Then as we move throughout the session I will give guidance on as needed on hang placement and poses. I have been known to thrown in a very corny jokes if that’s what it takes to break the ice and help the couple relax and have fun.
