"There is a secret in our culture, and it's not that birth is painful. It's that women are strong."– Sheryl Feldman

Regardless of where or how you give birth, your baby's birth will be one of the most transformative days of your life. It deserves to be documented.

The story of your baby's birth can often feel like a blur. Emotions are high and there is so much to take in. Documenting the story of your baby's birth allows you to be able to look back on it all. The moment you first saw your baby, the first time your spouse held them close. All of the fleeting moments that can fade away so quickly. It is also a gift to your child, giving them a glimpse into a time in their life that memory will not allow. Showing them your love and strength that brought them into this world.

The top 5 reasons to hire a birth photographer include:

  1. A professional birth photographer tells your birth story through powerful, raw, beautiful and emotional images.
  2. Allow your partner to be fully present and support you through your whole labor and delivery.
  3. Help you remember the birth of your baby vividly.
  4. Envision being able to see the moment you fell in love with your child.
  5. High quality, professional images.

"Having Rebecca there to capture the moments was the best decision I ever made. She was like a part of my family within seconds it was like we all had known her forever. The calming effect she has is like no other. She got to document me from me feeling at my best to my worst and I will cherish those photos forever, they truly are priceless and I will have her capture every child I have in the future. I remember once I finally felt good after my epidural I needed to have my makeup on and she was right there to capture me contour my face and get that perfect glow! Being a makeup artist and all I couldn’t disappoint! I ended up needing an emergency c section so she was so gracious enough to come back a few days later once I was feeling ok and she captured Jaxson just days old. We had so much fun together and it was like I had known her forever. I can’t thank you enough for being there with me and capturing my little love.” - Sabrina C

FAQ

THE EXPERIENCE:

I work quietly and discreetly to photograph your birth in a candid, honest and respectful way. The journey into motherhood is a unique experience bringing with it vulnerable emotions and powerful relationships. I am present as a story teller in your safe and nurturing space; no matter where you plan to give birth. I give your birthing team, midvife, doula, OB, and your support team the space they need to do their jobs, never interfering.

We will meet or chat on the phone for your birth consultation. I have a questionnaire to go over with you giving you the opportunity to share your expectations for birth photography as well as to share your birth plan with me. My hope is to handle your needs and desires with the utmost care. Your comfort and privacy is very important to me.

When the time comes for me to join you at your place of delivery I will be there with you up until 1 to 2 hours post delivery. Allowing time to capture those first moments of you are your spouse bonding with your baby.

I AM CONCERNED WITH HOW MY BODY WILL BE PHOTOGRAPHED, COULD YOU EXPLAIN THE PROCESS FURTHER?

I discuss with all of my birth photography clients what their vision is for documenting their birth story. If you would prefer modest images without capturing your baby crowning or no direct below the waist images, I will place myself in a position that allows for capturing modest images. There is so much more to birth photography than that shot, it is about documenting the entire journey. We will talk about your wishes whether that be modest or capturing it all.

What is birth photography?

Birth Photography is a documentary style photography session that begins during active labor, through the actual delivery of your baby. My birth stories cover your entire birthing experience, from active labor, about 7 cm dilatation, all the stages of labor, and through the first hour or two of your new baby’s life. Capturing your journey through labor, your baby’s first breath and first cry, cutting the cord, your first expression when you see their face, and all those details about your brand new bundle of joy and each one of their first moments of life that you want to treasure for years to come.

IF BIRTHS ARE SO UNPREDICTABLE, HOW DO YOU MAKE IT IN TIME TO DOCUMENT A BIRTH STORY?

We start preparing for your birth story from the very first day you contact me. I take only a limited number of birth clients each month.
Once an expecting mother becomes my birth client, I am available to her via text, phone call, and email through her entire pregnancy. For a healthy pregnancy without any risks or complications, I go on-call for birth clients at 37 weeks gestation which means my phone is on (even through the night) and I have no other major events going on during that time frame, as well as my gear and birth bag are packed and ready to go in a moments notice.

How will I get my pictures?

I deliver your edited birth images through a private online gallery. You may use this gallery to download your images to print at your lab of choice as well as the option to order a la carte prints right from the gallery. I deliver a few sneak peek images shortly after birth, for you to share as an announcement with family and friends. Your full gallery will take 3-4 weeks for completion.

Will you share my birth images online?

I will never share anything without your permission. My contract comes standard with a no-share model release and I will always check in with you after your birthing experience, to see if you are willing to share specific images.

What if your gear fails at my birth?

I bring a backup camera and lenses, just in case. I also carry extra batteries, memory cards, chargers, and flashes.

What if I labor for a really long time?

Then I’ll be with you for a really long time. That’s one of the many joys of being a birth photographer in Connecticut; it’s so unpredictable. I never know when I’m going to be called in to document a birth and, once I’m there, I never know when I’ll be heading back home again. It is all part of the journey that I am thrilled to be on with you.
