Sweet little Desi’s Family Photography Session in Monroe, CT

SPECTRUM INSPIRED is a global community that connects, supports and uplifts individuals and families touched by Autism Spectrum Disorders. In order to educate the general public, our team uses Lifestyle Photography to document a diverse group of children on the spectrum and their families across the globe in effort to normalize and destigmatize ASD. It is our mission to give families a platform to voice their struggles, celebrate their victories and share their story; all the while, removing the stigma and stereotypes of what is thought to be representative of Autism and show the world just how broad and beautiful the spectrum is.”

I am beyond honored to be a photographer for Spectrum Inspired. Autism is close to my heart. I love that I can use a passion of mine, family photography, to uplift other families through my photography and spread awareness about the Autism Spectrum as well.

Spectrum Inspired gifts families with children on the spectrum a FREE photography session! If you are interested in learning more about Spectrum Inspired or would like to apply for a session, please head here.

In the time since Desi’s family photo session I have remained in touch with his amazing mother, Lauren. We chat through social media and I get to keep up to date on all things Desi. Desi has an incredible bond with his Grandfather who lives at home with him. They spend their days reading books, playing outside, and sharing snacks.

Desi has the most incredibly loving family. His mom, dad, and big sister are by his side every day. He provides them with endless laughs and moments of joy, and they provide him with overflowing love.

Some beautiful words from Desi’s Mama:
””Both my children are so special; my daughter made me a mother, and for Desi, through infertility, I had to work to be a mother again. When we found out he had autism, I would be lying if I said the world didn’t tilt off center for a bit. I knew before they even said it; I am an occupational therapist who works with children, but to hear it mentioned, to hear it labeled for your own child… Well that’s just a different story. Nevertheless, we have been blessed with the funniest, quirkiest, silliest little old man that you would ever meet. He has a personality that everyone who meets him falls in love with; to meet Desi is to know him, and to be with him for more than five minutes, I promise you’ll be in love. His sister and his grandfather are his best friends, and as we are just starting to hear his voice just shy of his fourth birthday, it’s been an amazing opportunity to document the changes to this photo session. When we started therapy he was so resistant; he was scared of everything, completely nonverbal, and locked in his autism. Now that we are two years down the road from the diagnosis, having gone through birth to three and now in school, the changes have been astounding. He will always be our Desi, he will always have autism, but now we can enter his world, and he loves being in ours. This opportunity has been such a blessing, and the accuracy and authenticity in which images of him were captured is something I will hold dear to my heart forever.
