What is in a Birth Photographer’s Birth Bag?

So, you’ve got all of your ducks in a row and your birth bag is packed. Now you’re wondering what is in my bag and how I prepare as a Connecticut birth photographer to be ready to leave at a moments notice. I would love to share with you!

Connecticut labor and delivery photographer. CT home birth photography.

After booking a birth photography session with me, I send all of my families a questionnaire. The questionnaire helps me get to know your birth plan further and also gives me all of the important information I will need for when I receive your call that your baby is on their way. Information such as you and your spouse’s phone numbers and the address of the hospital or birthing center you will be delivering at if not you are not having a home birth. I save the answers you have provided into my phone and I also print out a copy that goes right into my birth bag.

So, what else goes into my birth bag?
Not only do I have back up camera gear packed, including a backup camera, flashes, batteries and memory cards, I also have to prepare to be away from home for an unknown length of time while I am documenting your incredible birth story.
So, I pack all sorts of things I may need such as:
- An extra phone charger
- Sweatshirt
- Protein packed meal bars
- Water bottle
- A bit of cash in case a kind family member is making a coffee run or I would like to visit a vending machine when time allows
- Chapstick
- Hair ties, brush, and dry shampoo
- Gum
- Deodorant (never underestimate how amazing a fresh application of deodorant can be)
- Feminine products
- Toothbrush and toothpaste

Having these items on hand is a great way to ensure I am always prepared and at my very best to have all of my focus on documenting your amazing journey through motherhood.
