Connecticut Birth Photography

FAQ

Birth photography is perhaps one of the most important types of photography out there. Birth itself is one of those most defining and emotional moments that occur in our life. Birth deserves to be documented just like the other great life moments. I always love telling people about my love for birth photography, because often people do not think to reserve a birth photographer. Mainly because birth can be such a private event, but so many, including myself, afterwards regret not having better photos, or any photos at all to remember the occasion.

connecticut labor and delivery photographer. at home birth photography. hospital birth photographer.

Often, many families leave the job of taking photos up to the people in the room, but then find that there are none taken because people get quite busy with their own designated jobs and photos become more of an afterthought during labor.

By hiring a professional photographer to document your birth, you will ensure that you're capturing the best photos possible. As a professional I understand composition, lighting, equipment, and angles, which all in turn help to document your birth appropriately. This also guarantees that your spouse will be able to assist mom in the birthing process as well as enjoy those first moments with your baby once they have arrived without having to worry about documenting themselves.

What does off-call mean?
Off call birth stories are completely dependent on my availability around my previously reserved clients. All “Off-Call” sessions are commitment free. You do not pay anything or sign a contract until I arrive at your birth, not in advance. With the unpredictability of birth, there is a chance women may go into labor at a time I may not be immediately available. "Off-call" means I do not block out my schedule for your due date or follow all of the other steps to ensure my availability, as I would be if I were "on-call." Off call birth photography allows for a lesser client investment because it is less demanding on my schedule.

What is birth photography?

Birth Photography is a documentary style photography session that begins during active labor, through the actual birth. My birth stories cover your entire birthing experience, from active labor, about 7 cm dilatation, all the stages of labor, and through the first hour or so of your new baby’s life. Capturing your journey through labor, your baby’s first breath and first cry, cutting the cord, your first expression when you see their face, and all those details about your brand new bundle of joy and each one of their first moments of life.

What does on-call mean?

Once you hit 37 weeks gestation, I will be on-call, 24-7, until your baby arrives.
This means that I do not travel more than 60 minutes from my home. If I do anything with my family, I drive separate in case I have to leave in the middle of our activities. I do not take any other special events during the on call time. It is completely devoted to making sure I am there for the arrival of your labor and deivery. My camera bag all packed and ready to go.

IF BIRTH IS SO UNPREDICTABLE, HOW DO YOU MAKE IT IN TIME TO DOCUMENT THE BIRTH STORY?

We start preparing for your birth story from the very first day your contact me.
I take limited birth clients each month to ensure there is no overlap.
Once an expecting mother becomes my birth client, I am available to her via text, phone call, and email through her entire pregnancy. For a healthy pregnancy without any risks or complications, I go on-call for birth clients at 37 weeks gestation.

How will I get my pictures?

I deliver your 100+ edited birth images through a private online gallery. You may use this gallery to share, download, and print the images from your birth. I deliver 3-5 sneak peek images within 72 hours after birth, to share as an announcement with family and friends. Your full gallery will take 3-4 weeks for completion.

I want excellent birth photography, but price is an issue for me. Do you offer payment plans?

Absolutely. The majority of my clients love to take advantage of personalized payment plans. Simply contact me and we will talk about what your needs are and how to make birth photography possible for your family.

Why is birth photography a bigger investment than a typical photography session?

As a birth photographer I commit weeks of time to living on call. No leaving town, phone on day and night, and often even miss important family events all for the passion and love of helping you welcome your baby. Birth photographers are some of the most skilled in the industry as they have to have knowledge on how to produce excellent quality of images in the very difficult and often dark lighting situations that mothers often birth in. Births occur any time of the day or in the middle of the night on a surprise date that you cannot plan for, for an unknown number of hours.
