You are sitting in your living room. One child is asking for a snack while you’re trying to help your other child with their shoes. You think about how hard this is to be so needed, feeling split in so many directions.

But then your heart constricts when you remember that all things pass - including the good things, and that one day you won’t be needed so much. You realize how much you want to hold onto this.

Of being needed seemingly every moment of every day, it reminds you of all those who have told you to hold on to these days with everything you have, because it all passes in the blink of an eye.

As a mother myself, I know that ache. The ache to want those dimples on their little fingers to stay forever, the way you hope they never outgrow grabbing your cheeks and nuzzling their nose with yours. But, as a mother...I also know that time doesn't slow down for any of us. Your kids grow and your heart over flows with new things to love every day. But you still ache for all the moments that have passed.

I would be honored to help you document these moments with your children, with YOU in the frame. You are part of their legacy too and you deserve to have moments with your children documented in photographs. Capturing these moments in a tangible way for you to be able to look back on years down the road. To see the way the sunlight catches on your daughter's curls through the kitchen window and be pulled right back into the sound of her laughter as she twirled in the sunlight.

Family photographs serve as a time capsule, freezing your "now" to look back on years down the road. A photograph pulls you right back into that moment, the emotion and sounds come flooding back, even when those tiny feet are now grown and roaming the world on their own.

What is your story? What parts of your family's story do you want to document and treasure for generations to come?

Before the Session:

We will spend some time planning the session through email or over the phone. What moments do you want to document? Is it your morning routine of taming bedhead and putting the kids on the bus? Is it your child's love of cooking or making art at the dinning room table? Once we decide what we are going to document, we will discuss what time of the day is best and pick a date!

What is the session like?

I like to spend some time letting the children get to know me a bit first. Older children often love being able to show off their room. It's the spot in the home that is all theirs. Filled with colors they love and things they enjoy. There are moments when my is camera down and we are just talking and playing. I want everyone to feel comfortable, not just be a lady with a camera. You will spend time with your children while I capture your organic moments.

But my house is so cluttered:

No, your house is your home. Who's home is magazine ready? I know mine sure isn't. I have a laundry basket sitting at the top of my stairs just outside my bedroom door that has been there long enough that I have forgotten if its clean or dirty. I should probably go take care of that.
There are going to be toys on the floor. I bet we will unmake and bed you made that morning. There will be snacks on the counter and cups in the sink.

Tidy up. Shove that laundry basket in a closet. Rinse those cups. But please, don't scrub baseboards and wash curtains before I come over.

The focus is documenting your family's love. That is what will be filling my camera frame.

I don't think my home has enough natural lighting:

I have photographed in homes with skylights and large french doors. And I have also photographed families in small apartments having a single window in the living room. I see great pockets of light everywhere. I have yet to come across a home that was too dark. I pull open those shades and get to business.

My kid's mood changes 1,746 times day. What if they aren't behaving for our session?

I am pretty sure your idea of behaving and mine are different.
I am a Mama of two myself. Trust me, I get it.

But this is part of why I am absolutely in love with Storytelling Sessions.
There is no pressure. I am not expecting anyone to still and stare into my camera with a fake smile.
I encourage tickle wars and pillow fights. I am there right along side you Mamas, putting down my camera if someone needs a hug or help with their shoes.
Your children are getting your full attention and you are getting to love on your kiddos, all while doing activities that you enjoy.

How should we dress for this type of session?

Like yourself! Whatever that means to you. Yoga pants and an over sized sweater, jeans and a flannel. Feel free to let the kids wear their favorite dinosaur shirt. You want to be comfortable and feel like yourselves.

I put together a few images on a Pinterest board of clothing examples if you'd like to take a look: https://www.pinterest.com/RebeccaBeitzel/what-to-wear-documentary-session

What happens after the session?

Within a few days from our session I will post a couple of sneak peek images on social media (if you'd like). I love the peek into your gallery that this provides (and I know how anxious you are to see them as well!)  About three weeks after your session, you receive an online password protected gallery to view your digital images. From there you download your high resolution images that are included in your session, as well as any additional digital images and a la carte prints you'd like to purchase.
Your images will also be available to share on social media for friends and family to see!

Here are some session Ideas:

Baking cookies
Board games and pizza night
Sunday morning pancakes with bedhead and jammies
Jumping through the sprinkler in the backyard and washing the car
Working on the garden

I would love to chat with you about documenting YOUR story
